This popular confection actually originated in Sweden and they actually celebrate October 4th as cinnamon roll day! A staple in every bakery in North America and Northern Europe, this is not so hard to make at home. Pairs well with a strong coffee or even with Indian Chai. Making it at home also allows you to vary the amount of sugar and cinnamon to suit your taste. Best enjoyed fresh out of the oven!

Method
Prep Time: 120 min
Cook Time: 35 min
(Serves 16 – 20)
- In the bowl, sprinkle 1 tbsp granulated sugar and yeast over the lukewarm water. Set aside for 10 minutes until foamy.
- In another bowl, mix the egg, milk, salt, sugar and melted butter. Add 2 cups of the flour and the water, vanilla and yeast mixture. Then, mix until its all incorporated and slowly add about 2 more cups of flour. Knead or mix the dough until smooth.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap and set in a warm place to rise for 30 min. Then take the dough and roll it out into a 13 in by 9 in rectangle on a floured surface. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl. Take the butter (room temp) and spread it on the rectangle. Then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar all over the rectangle leaving a 1 in margin around the side.
- Begin rolling from either direction in a tight fashion. Once rolled, cut into pieces and place in a 13×9 dish that is well greased. Again, let rise for 30-60 min in a warm place.
- Finally, pop into a preheated oven (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for 30 min until golden brown. Let cool at room temperature.
- Meanwhile, take the powdered sugar and mix it with the milk to make a simple glaze. Pour or drizzle over the warm rolls.
- Serve and enjoy!
