Here’s a truly simple, yet scrumptious, fall recipe ! Layers of flaky puff pastry wrapped around the sweet and spicy warmth of an apple filling. Very easy to make with Pepperidge Farm pastry and all you need are some Granny Smith  apples, sugar, and corn flour. Feel free to spice it to your taste. Perfect for a lazy weekend brunch or to warm up a cold fall evening – enjoy!

Ingredients (Apple Turnovers)

  • 4 Granny Smith apples (cut and peeled)
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 Package puff pastry
  •  2-3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 egg beaten well

Method

Prep Time: 20 min

Cook Time: 25 min

(Serves 10)

  1. Place the sliced apples in a bowl and add lemon juice.  Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the apples to the pan. Cook for 2 minutes. Add the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  2.  Stir together cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water. Cook until the apple mixture has thickened. Remove from heat and cool completely.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  4.  Unfold puff pastry sheets, and cut out square shaped pieces (or desired shape/size).  Spoon apples onto the center of each. Fold corners forming a triangle.
  5. Finally brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake for 25 minutes
  6. Serve hot and enjoy!
